Luke 13.11-16

The connection of illness with Satan becomes explicit in an episode peculiar to Luke.  When Jesus is teaching in a synagogue on a Sabbath, he is approached by a woman with “a Demon of arthritis”—or, as Luke puts it, “a Spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years,” which made her bent over and unable to stand up straight (Luke 13.11).  In this case, Jesus cures her by addressing the woman, telling her that she has been loosed from her weakness (Luke 13.12), but in explaining his action he reveals that the woman had been bound by Satan for eighteen long years (13.16).
